Upgrade!

Tyler got an upgrade, in respect to his book bag. But before we get into that, I would first like to pay my respects to the old book bag: a Stephen Joseph quilted bag. This was supposed to be Tyler's first book bag. Just something to carry an extra set of clothes and diapers in, to and from school, and anywhere else the family went. But let's face it ... I got this book bag because I thought it was cute! I really didn't expect it to hold up at all. But two years later and MANY washings, I am in awe! It is still in great shape. Hats off to this company making such a great product: durable and cute!

I decided that it was time for Tyler to upgrade to a new book bag. I guess I have realized that he is (gasp!) growing up! I mainly wanted something that 'looked' like a real book bag. Easier said than done. Everything that I found was just going to be too big, and I knew that he wouldn't wear it. I finally ran across this:

This is from Pottery Barn Kids (which I LOVE!). It is their "Pre-School Book bag". A lot smaller than the regular book bag, and a little bit smaller than their small book bag. I went with the Gecko Print. And yes ... I did get it personalized.

For a comparison of sizes ... this was my book bag in college.

The book bag is the perfect size. Here is hoping that it will last as long as the first one!

On a side note: Please disregard the wet hair (we just got out of the bath) and the mismatched PJ's (Mickey Mouse on top and Christmas Monkeys on the bottom!).

Oh yeah ... and also the Post It Note Tabs on his arms!

The family's first 5K!

We ran our first 5K. And by 'we', I mean the whole family! This weekend we participated in the West Columbia Police Department "Foot Pursuit 5K". This was a run to raise money to help buy equipment and gear for the officers. Since that is near and dear to our hearts, we decided 'why not'!

It was a cold morning, when we started out (notice the babies in hats and blankets, and us in coats). Around 38 degrees. Tyler and I are on the right!

It took us (the walkers with strollers!) around 50 minutes to complete the 5K. We had a meltdown or two but we finished! And it definitely warmed up, notice the layers missing!

It didn't take Kyle nearly that long to finish! I am very proud of him for completing his first 5K. He is already planning our next one.

And the best part: the 'free' t-shirt! (You know how I love free stuff!)

We had a great time, and supported a good cause.

Mr. Potato Head

For Valentine's Day, we gave Tyler a "Mr. Potato Head". We went this direction for two reasons: 1) He didn't need any more candy and 2) We are kind of on a Toy Story 'kick' right now. I wasn't sure if Tyler was going to think this toy was fun, it is definitely very basic. Unlike the IPOD games that he has mastered!

But to my surprise, he LOVES "Mr. Potato Head".

Maybe it is because he recognizes it from Toy Story ...... or .....

Maybe it is the simplicity of the toy ....... or ........

Maybe it is because he can take the parts and stick them in his mouth and make everyone laugh (including himself)!

He's all boy .....

This week Tyler came home from school with this ....

Well .... Tyler and a friend were both riding tricycles at school. When I say riding, I really mean running into each other with those tricycles. Tyler decided to pick up the speed. When he hit the other tricycle, there must have been a whip-lash effect because his head slammed down on the handle bars of his tricycle, creating the black eye. At least we didn't need stitches this time!
